The Australian Centre for Environmental
Law

Climate Law in Australia
CONFERENCE 2007..................................
In April this year the ANU College of Law staged the
first conference about Climate
Law in Australia which drew an audience of over two hundred including
representatives of many sectors of industry and non-governmental organizations,
barristers and solicitors and federal, state and local government officers from
all around Australia. One conference attendee wrote afterwards, 'I can't
ever remember being as rivited, interested or inspired by so many speakers'.
Another wrote, 'I have not come across a better legal conference'.
Now the ANU is organizing the first courses of Climate
Law which will be offered as part of the post-graduate
program which the ANU teaches not only in Canberra but also at ANU House
in Collins Street in Melbourne. These courses, which include all the key areas
of environmental law, are taught by many of Australia's
foremost environmental lawyers drawn not only from the ANU but around the
country and have been acclaimed by the program's students. According to one
one who graduated last year, 'the program is very well run and the level
of specialisation in environmental law is clearly unmatched anywhere in Australia.'
