Honours

Honours
Students enrolled in any of the law degrees may qualify to obtain the
degree with honours. The length of the program is the same. The requirements
for the honours degree consists of Part A: obtaining a specified average
mark in courses excluding the Honours Thesis counting for 70% and Part
B: the Honours Thesis counting for 30% of the final honours examination
requiring a research paper of 11,000 - 13,000 words.
The Honours Thesis is normally undertaken in the final or penultimate
semester of the degree. To be eligible to enrol in the Honours Thesis,
students require an overall law course average mark of 4.5 on a 10 point
scale. The Bachelor of Laws with honours may be awarded at three levels:
Honours first class; Honours second class, division A; or Honours second
class, division B.
