The ANU College of Law is offering a new program from 2008.
The ANU Juris Doctor (JD) is
a distinctive program for graduates of non-law disciplines (or non-Australian
law graduates). It allows students access to nominated postgraduate law
courses, with a greater focus on research, while still equipping students
with the academic qualifications for admission
to practice. The program can be studied full or part-time with entry
points in first and second semester.

Duration
3 years full-time study
The ANU JD program consists of the following:
15 compulsory courses, worth 90 units;
9 law elective courses worth 54 units, including at least 2 postgraduate
courses
(12 units).
144 units in total.
Entry requirements
Applicants are ranked for selection in order of academic merit based on
performance in previous qualifications. The level of attainment required
for entry in a particular year depends on the overall number and standard
of applications. It should be noted, however, that some weighting is still
placed on secondary results. In 2008 approved applicants will be offered
a Commonwealth Supported place.
Course delivery
Compulsory and elective courses are delivered during the week on campus.
Elective postgraduate courses are offered in intensive format over 3 to
6 days, sometimes including weekends. Please see postgraduate

Students will be able to choose 9 electives from the current list available
to LLB students and an additional list of nominated postgraduate courses.

Previous law studies
A student who enrols in the ANU JD degree after completing law studies
at another university may only be granted status for up to half of the
courses prescribed for the ANU degree. Where a student was previously
enrolled in a combined program with law, and law courses were included
in the completion of the other award status will only be given so that
overall the student will have passed the equivalent of six years of full-time
study. A student may not repeat in the JD program a course the syllabus
of which is substantially similar to that of a subject passed for the
award of another degree or diploma.
Assessment and attendance
Assessment of compulsory courses is via examination and assignments. Postgraduate
courses are assessed via assignments only.
