All jurisdictions have separate requirements for admission. While we try to
provide up to date information please make sure you check the requirements
directly with the
ACT
Supreme Court.
Legal Workshop staff will not edit any admission documents. There are templates
available on the admission websites for each jurisdiction. It is your
responsibility to ensure that your documents are correct.

Applicants
must file 1 original and 1 copy of the following admission documents:
1.
Originating application for admission as a lawyer – prescribed form 3.46
2.
Applicant’s affidavit – affidavit form 6.11
3. Three affidavits of character –
affidavit form 6.11
Each applicant should annex to their affidavit the following
documents:
1. Evidence of completion of a Bachelor of Laws – this can be a
testamur or an academic statement.
2. A Dean’s Certificate in accordance with
Rule 3607.
NB: A letter of completion is also required by the Court. You must
notify Legal Workshop of you intention to be admitted, once we have been
notified, a letter of completion can be prepared and will be lodged directly
with the Court on your behalf. Please email
CourtAdmission@law.anu.edu.au to
request a letter of completion.
Where you can find the documents
Academic record
If you do not already have a copy of your academic
record you will need to apply for one from the Law School where you undertook
your Law degree.
ANU Law School students can apply for their Academic Record via
Student
Administration Services
Dean’s Letter
You must
apply for a Dean’s letter from the Law School where you undertook your Law
degree.
ANU Law School Students can apply for Dean’s Certificates from the Law
School Office by request in writing or by email to
enquiries.law@anu.edu.au.
As
a cost recovery measure the ANU Law School Office requires payment for the
provision of Dean's Certificates. The charge is $30 and should be paid to the
Payments Officer at Student Administration. If you are not able to pay in person
payments may also be made by faxing your credit card details to fax number 6125
7535 and requesting the receipt be forwarded to the ANU Law School Office.
You
need to advise the jurisdiction in which you plan to be admitted and your
mailing address if you would like the certificate posted to you or a phone
number where we can contact you once the certificate is available for
collection.
Please allow a minimum of two weeks for the Certificate to be
prepared.
Letter of Completion of the Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice (GDLP)
You must notify the ANU Legal Workshop that you wish to be admitted so that a
letter of completion can be provided directly to the Court once you have
completed all the requirements of the GDLP.
To advise ANU Legal Workshop of your intention to be admitted email courtadmission@law.anu.edu.au.
You will need to provide:
• Your name and
student number;
• the jurisdiction you wish to be admitted in;
• the date you
wish to attend the admission ceremony
ANU Legal Workshop will prepare your
Letter of Completion and file it directly with the Court.
Please be aware that
we support a number of admission ceremonies in all jurisdictions, Letters of
Completion are prepared and sent in the order of upcoming admission ceremonies.

Students need to notify Legal Workshop of their intention to be admitted as
soon as possible to ensure early marking is organised and results are finalised
in time for filing dates. Please
email Court Admission to advise.
Students undertaking the Criminal Practice elective in November will not be
eligible for December admission
unless their court report is submitted no
later than 3.00pm Friday 7 Dec.
Things you need to know to be admitted
Timing
Admission applications must be filed in the Court not later than 14
days before the date the application is to be heard.
Applicants should provide
email and telephone details so that the secretary of the Admission Board can
contact you if necessary.
Annexures
Each annexure should be marked with the
corresponding initial as indicated in the affidavit.
The annexures should appear
after the body of the affidavit and should be either:
• prefaced by the Annexure
to affidavit - Form 6.12; or,
• have directly written on the document itself
“This and the following [XX] pages is the annexure marked “ [XX] “ referred to
in the affidavit of [your name] sworn/affirmed at [xxxx] on [xxxx] before me:
[Justice of the Peace/Barrister/Solicitor]”
Date of completion of the GDLP
The date you completed the GDLP will be the end date of the last session in
which you undertook the coursework.
Filing your documents
You can file through a 'solicitor on the record', ie a solicitor acting for
you OR you can take the self-filing option which uses the Director ANU Legal
Workshop. If you are using the
self-filing option your footer should read:

If you live in the ACT, you can put your details as the address for service of documents in your
Originating Application.
If you live outside of the ACT, and are being admitted in the ACT jurisdiction,
you MUST have an ACT address as your address for service. You can use the
ANU Legal Workshop for this, as above.
If you live outside of the ACT you can send your completed documents, including
a cheque to the ACT Supreme Court for the filing fee, to Legal Workshop at the
above address, Attention Court Admissions. We will file your application
on your behalf.
