Information for international students

The Law School at ANU is one of Australia’s leading law schools, and has international students from more than 30 countries at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The ANU LLB is recognised for admission to legal practice in Singapore, Malaysia and India.

The Law School is committed to excellence in teaching and research and to an ethos of continuous improvement of the law and the legal system. Our staff include some of Australia’s best-known and outstanding legal scholars and teachers, who have authored many of the texts used Australia-wide for the study of law. The Law School, in conjunction with other faculties and schools, offers a wide range of combined undergraduate degree programs, allowing students to graduate with two degrees. We also offer postgraduate coursework and research degrees.

Our student support services for international students include a member of academic staff whose particular role is to act as International Student Adviser to provide support, help and advice to all the international students in the Law School. We also offer a course called English in a Legal Context to all students whose first language is not English or come from a different cultural background.

We also have exchange agreements with a number of Universities around the world for students who would like to study at the ANU for a short term only.

We invite you to contact us to discuss your study options!

Student advisers are available to International Students. We also offer a course called English in a Legal Context for first year undergraduate students.

Postgraduate Coursework Students - please note:
Most courses are taught intensively over periods of three to six days. A growing number of on-line courses are also offered. Intensive and on-line course delivery makes it easier for part-time students to balance work and study commitments and allows international students to combine their study with part-time work or travel. Intensive courses also enables us to have eminent guest lecturers and experts for individual courses. Depending on course choices, this can result in full-time students being unable to avoid sometimes lengthy periods (possibly up to two months) in which they have no formal classes.

All classes, except fully on-line courses have attendance requirements. Mixed mode courses (with classes and on-line component) also require attendance at classes.
