Greetings for 2008!

My name is Paddy Mayoh and I’m the Education VP for 08.

Apart from providing you with the highly treasured past HD answers, the Education portfolio spends much of its time working with the Australian Law Students’ Association, the ANU Students’ Association and the College of Law to provide students with high-quality education. Sitting on several committees, such as the undergraduate studies committee, has allowed the Society to play an integral role in the current curriculum review process and secure opportunities for greater input from prospective employers. These committees provide an opportunity for us to have a say about anything from the structure of assessment and curriculum reforms to library resources. 

One issue I feel strongly about is ensuring the LLB maintains its respectability in the legal profession. The recent introduction of the Juris Doctorate program provides exciting opportunities for post graduate studies, yet I am dedicated to ensuring that all our late night readings of Kirby’s judgements pay off with a highly respected LLB degree. A commitment should be given to facilitate the flow of benefits derived from the JD to the LLB.

Legal Education Forums also form an important part of our work. These are regular events which bring students, academics and members of the profession together to hear judges, practitioners and policy-makers give insights into contemporary legal issues.

As for my background, I came to ANU after working in the wine business in Beijing and am studying Asian Studies/ Law. Although I am known for my Asianess at heart, my conspicuous curls will always stand out, so if you have any questions or want a chat, please grab me or drop me a line at lsseducation@anu.edu.au.
